Happy 2012 resolve to do it better

I thought I would start this post with some words before minis. I know I have been long over do for a post. I want to start off with a Happy New Year wish. So " Happy New Year" I was thinking about all I want to do in this new year and there is lots. But really the more I thought about it the more I kept coming back to the word " Better". Better friend, better mom. better eater, better blogger etc. the list goes on. It isn't a bad word not at all. For me it gives me hope and strength to know that no matter what I want to do things better. Be kind, love lots and most of all stop worrying about what you can't change and start doing something about what you can. Happy 2012 friends...... Post with minis coming soon. Its all in a days work

So today started out with a empty little display unit. Painted shabby white a week ago I had a hard time deciding what to put inside. Should it be bread?, should it be cupcakes?, and then I decided I wanted to fill it with muffins. And so my day began....... I made blueberry, blueberry crumb, cherry, cherry crumb, chocolate, lemon poppy seed, pumpkin and banana. I'm happy to have it done and I think it turned out just as I hoped. I hope you like it too. Off to bed I go with a homemade pumpkin muffin in my hand. Nothing like the real thing....... its what inspires me. Till next time. Mini hugs~

When life hands you lemons...........

So as summer is coming to a end we have been enjoying some beautiful weather. Made a big bowl of fresh salsa on Sunday. While at the farmers market I stood next to a display of lemons and the smell was amazing. Lemons are summer to me. Fresh lemonade, ice tea with lemon, fresh fish with lemon and of course life wouldn't be complete without lemon cake. Lemon bundt, lemon pound, lemon layer and the list goes on...... So today I share with you some mini lemon baking. A great way to start don't you think? I instantly smell lemon when I see these pictures. I hope you do the same. Enjoy! Mini hugs~

New Beginnings~

I could think of no better title for this long over do post than " New Beginnings". It perfectly describes my life right now. I have been away awhile I know but I have been very busy. Before my disappearance I was struggling with my kids getting older and just where that left me. Well that was really only the half of it. I have gone thru some very big changes , none of which were easy for me. We decided to sell our house of 11 years because we could no longer afford it. Talk about tough. I had 11 years of things to go thru and I don't like getting rid of things. There was lots of painting to do too. So I painted and as I was painting I cried and mourned the loss of my home. I thought about my kids and all the firsts that happened there......and I cried some more.

Really it had become more house than we needed and now it was time to go back to where I grew up. Closer to my mom, my brother and his family, and really closer to my kids who all seem to be moving in the same direction. It is a cute little house , with a room for making my miniatures. I will give you a little look at my new life . No not my miniature life this time. Oh and did I mention I have a porch? Well I do. So come on over for a visit and I will make cookies and lemonade.

Change is hard but it can be good too! So heres to new beginnings!

Pie~

Its Sunday morning here and the sun is shining. It has been cold and rainy the last few days so its lovely to have the sun back. Even if it brought with it the wind.

I have been playing with the clay again. I bought this wonderful Martha Stewart pie and tart book. It made me want to make the real thing so bad. It also inspired to make them in miniature. I have made cherry crumbles and pies before, Also blueberry but never apple so I tried some apple ones too. They have a little green to them as they are supposed to be granny smith apples. I even lit my apple pie candle while making these. Nothing inspires your creative soul more.

I think for today I will smile and not try to think of the things that have been troubling me so.

If we could all be together for some pie? That would be the best. I hope your day is giving you time to do things you like to do. Mini hugs!

Thought I would share with you some pictures from the play. I was happy to hear that you enjoy peeks at my real life too. I want to thank you for the oh so nice comments. I read every one of them. Really they make my day.

So this was such a fun little show. I can tell you they did a WONDERFUL job. Lots of singing a dancing. You couldn't help but smile. The girl who played Tracy....such talent. Even sounded just like her. The boy who played her mom adorable. I had the best weekend. Being with my kids and not thinking about anything else. My Emily had a small part but she didn't care she just had fun. There is a picture of her singing in the sweater and plaid dress, I also included a picture of Hannah and I just before we went in. I sometimes over think this blog thing. It is supposed to be fun. That is why I started it in the first place. Its mine and I can share what I want and say what I want when I want. So why do I worry so much. I thought I would share one of my favorite pictures I took of the bakeshop. Who cares that I already shared the shop. I don't always have to have something new. I'm still proud of this accomplishment. This took over a year to complete so I can enjoy it finished for awhile.

Life has been very busy here. My 2 youngest will graduate on June 3rd and this has me questioning what's next? I have been a mom for so long and I will always be a mom but I have to start letting go and its so hard. The hardest thing I have ever done.

I usually don't mix my real life with my mini life on the blog but hey real life is happening here and its hard not to mention it.

Emily is in the school play at school, They are doing the broadway play of " Hairspray" Starts tomorrow night. I can't wait. I will be there cheering these wonderful kids on all 3 nights.

Big changes are coming for me and I'm going to need to be very strong. I know I can do it.

Happy Sunday! Boy this was a fast weekend. But it is spring break here so it kind feels like a extra long one for me. No running kids to school first thing in the morning. I can stay in my pj's a little longer and start mini making a little sooner.

Today's creating involved cake. I really love cake and making mini ones is something I do enjoy. I have been wanting to make these cakes for awhile so today I did.

I did not have the best day yesterday so I worked on a little table to make me feel better. I really like how this one turned out, It has all my favorites. Miniatures have always been something I turn to when things aren't the best. They have gotten my through many things.

It would seem that my car will be down again. We ran into another costly problem when doing the brakes :( I so hope this will be it. It can be so hard not to have your car when you have so much to do, and kids to run around........ But there is always minis! I'm sure happy for that. I'm hoping this one makes you smile too. Happy weekend everyone. Like I said before I have had quite a week. But I have decided to turn things around and dive deep back into my minis. Many times my real gets in the way of my miniature time and that can be very depressing. Other times after going through some time away from the miniatures I can get so addicted to them again that I don't know my real life anymore. During the last few weeks of cleaning after Miss Hannah moved out I came across some boxes of things I forgot I had. One of those things was this little cupcake shop I started and then tucked away for another day. Well I think its time it gets done and opened for business. What to you think? Note to self finish everything I start. Well we will see about that one. I'm sure going to try until real life comes calling again. Mini hugs!

Okay so where to begin. Last weekend my daughter Hannah turned 21. She also moved into her first apartment. I can't believe where the time has gone or that she is old enough to have her own place. Needless to say it has been a tough adjustment. For us both. The move is only about 10 minutes away and I'm so thankful for that.

Still working on the bakery modeled after the real shop. Should be done and ready to share soon. I also put together a kitchen room box for the CDHM online magazine. I thought I would share a couple pictures here. I had so much fun with it.

I don't know how many of you saw Mercedes post about the little tea party she did for the adorable Liberty but I was so inspired when I saw it I had to recreate it in miniature. I'm very happy to say it was a nice distraction and is now on its way to New Zealand.

My house smells so sweet

One of my favorite parts of the Holiday season is the baking and sweet smells. There is nothing like sugar, butter and vanilla. Well maybe chocolate is pretty wonderful too. For the past week I have been baking , baking and baking. I think homemade cookies make very good gifts. I give them to the ladies that work at my bank, to my wonderful friends and family. My kids enjoy them too. My son just came in and had a couple for breakfast Lol. This year we had a new cookie cutter. It was the cupcake shape in different sizes. It was sent to me from Mercedes. Her blog Liberty Biberty. Thank you Mercedes for this fun fun new cutter. Those cookies were the first to go. As promised I'm trying to do a better job of visiting the blog and sharing fun things going on in my miniature life. Well for months now I have had a special project going on. It is a cupcake bakeshop modeled after a real one. When finished it will travel there to be displayed for many to see. Very exciting stuff. I have really took this one to heart and I want everything including all the little foods to look as close as possible to the real life ones. It is close to completion now and I will be sharing the finished piece with you soon. For now here are some sneak peeks. I made the little cakes on the cake stands the other day. A new glass top for my table

So I like to create little vision boards with things that represent me and my wishes for the future. I thought it would be fun to make on with the little table in my workshop. I arranged my pictures and things on the table and then placed a glass table top over them. Here is the end result. I love it! Wanted to stop in and say "Hi" to my blog friends. I have been so busy trying to get the shop finished and organized. I have been organizing the house as well. It has been long over due. It is a good feeling when you are all finished. Of course right by my side has been my sweet little "mini" dog. I took these pictures of her enjoying the warm sun the other day. They make me smile.

I took my two youngest to take their senior pictures for the yearbook today. I just don't know where the time has gone. It really goes by so quickly. To everyone with little ones. It really goes by fast so enjoy all those little kid moments each and every one of them because you will miss those moments someday. Someday comes so much sooner than you think. Mini hugs!

To say that I'm excited would be a understatement. I'm beyond excited. For over 20 years Kim's minis has been in various kitchens and spread across much of the kitchen table. Today I move into my own little shop, space, whatever you want to call it. Its mine!!!. I chose to do it white with some shabby style. My favorite. It's mine after all it should represent me. I also chose white for light. Lighting is everything when you work with such tiny things.

I hope you like it so far. Just finished painting today so now the decorating begins. Much happy mini creating will happen here. I look forward to sharing it with you. Mini hugs!

So happy to be working on minis again. I'm also thrilled to share that soon I will have my own little workshop and won't be making minis from my kitchen anymore. It has been a long time coming but I couldn't be happier. I will share pictures soon. Added another window today. Painting next week and then wood flooring. Did I mention how excited I feel? No more feeling guilty or worrying.

Just thought I would say hello and share with you my latest creation. This is for something very special. I promise that as soon as I can share the exciting project going on in my oh so busy life I will. These little treats are on their way to New York and I do hope they make someone very happy. To say I'm feeling much happier would be a under statement. I'm so HAPPY to be back making minis again. My thumb has finally healed enough to work with small things again. This weeks has started off with lots of cookies. Here are just some of what I made. I'm a big fan of frosted sugar cookies in my real life so I guess it only natural that I would enjoy creating them in miniature too. Can you smell the sugar? Come on have some cookies with me. Not much new in my miniature life. My finger took me away from making minis all last week. :( Slowly trying to get back to making some things. I thought some Rice krispie treats might be fun to try. My birthday and what was inside the cupcake tins

For everyone who was wondering what Mercedes put in those adorable cupcake tins. I opened them first thing this morning. First one contained the cutest cupcake cookie cutters. I can not wait to make frosted cookies with these. LOVE them. The second tin contained a cute little polka dot table she made. I really could not be happier. Thank you so much. I put some cookie sandwiches on one of the cute stand she made me and some wonderful chocolate boxes I purchased at the Tom Bishop miniature show yesterday. I also got a lovely J.Getzan bakers rack. What do you think? I have wanted one for so long and thanks to a lovely friend I have one now. So other than a horrible finger injury I had a perfect birthday. Thanks so much for all the wishes. I received some wonderful mail today. It came all the way from Mercedes and Liberty's house to mine. They wanted to wish me a Happy Birthday. Yes, this Sunday is my Birthday. We won't discuss which one Lol.

Look at the wonderful things they sent. The wonderful drawing of my name was created by the very sweet Liberty. She just celebrated her 6th Birthday.

I was only allowed to open the 2 little square boxes and the wonderful cupcake tins have been driving me crazy all afternoon. You see.......... I don't get to open those till Sunday.

Thank you so much Liberty and Mercedes. Mercedes has made me many tiny polka dot pitchers. I love each and every one. And also some wonderful little cake stands. Of course I promptly added a cake to one for the picture. Wonderful.

I was visiting my old friend ebay today and look what I found for sale. It is a special room box I made and sold to a wonderful lady back in 2006. It was such a fun surprise seeing this again. I had so much fun creating it. There is 5 days left and here is the item # 270611597440. There is more pictures there. It is finally summertime here and the weather is so nice it is hard to stay inside and work on minis. I have been spending time outside doing things with my kids. I did mange to get some mini cupcakes done but thats about it today. Maybe tomorrow I will be ready to get to work or maybe I will want to play outside again. I guess we will see. Christmas in July? no its only June. I had some special requests for Christmas and Halloween this time. I thought I would share some Christmas with you today. I hope you love it. I have made mini cobblers before but today I got a package in the mail which had these cute little bowls inside. They are from Sumaiya. As soon as I saw them I thought perfect for some cobblers. Not feeling the best this weekend. But I sneak a little bit of minis in here and there. Todays treat is some French Crullers. I found this wonderful book called "The donut book." Its got some recipes and fun stories about the donut. Such as how the donut got its hole. I hope you enjoy my miniature version of the French Cruller. I think I may need a Krispy Kreme now. Well this was my first attempt at some miniature fried chicken and grilled cheese sandwiches for a special request table I'm doing. These will be put on a table that will be used for the top of a REAL wedding cake. No pressure.....no pressure at all. I have never made anything like these before. I've been all about the sweets. I'm always trying to think of new things to try and create in miniature. I started to think of cake we used to have regularly at our bakery. Two of the most ordered cakes were the fruit basket cake and the pink champagne. Here is my miniature version of the pink champagne. I even made some cupcakes. Happy weekend everyone. I was asked the other day if I ever get to make minis for myself and I really don't have as much time as I would like. When I'm working on things for other people I do try to make one or two for myself. Not enough to fill a big project but I thought it might be fun to put them in something smaller instead. After some nice warm sunshine last week we have become cold and rainy again. But its okay my miniature making has me thinking of springtime and Easter. Cute little yellow ducks.... Love is in the air at my house and so are birthdays. My son turned 17 on Thursday and my daughter turned 20 on Friday. Today I put Hannah on a plane with her friend for a week long trip. Part of her birthday. Let me tell you it is so hard to let her go. I know I have too but it is so hard. I hoping the time will go by quickly especially since I have so much to do.

I thought I would share some pictures of just one of things I have been working on. I love Valentines day. It is my favorite to do in miniature. This is a special request sneak peek as I'm not quite done yet.....I do hope she loves it. Well back to keeping my mind off of Hannah. Mini hugs!

We are having big storms here and I spent most of the day with no power.It makes mini making very hard. A bigger storm is coming tomorrow. I thought I would put this post up tonight just in case the next couple days my computer time is effected by this bad weather.

I had a great time with the giveaway and so glad so many of you had fun with it too. Mandy is very happy and that makes me happy.

So I had a special request for some miniature cinnamon rolls with no icing. I have made them before but this time I really wanted to make them look the best I could. We even baked some real ones so I could get the look just right. The best model ever is right there in front of you. So taking a bite of a warm roll........ I iced my mini rolls. The kitchen smelled delicious! Iced or un-iced I love cinnamon rolls. Today's been good. Mini hugs!

I wanted to wish everyone a Very Very Happy New Year! I really wanted to post sooner but Christmas brought me a nasty cold this year. Felt somewhat normal today so I took some pictures and made this post. I can't wait to see what 2010 brings for us all. I have enjoyed blogging for all of 2009.Thanks everyone for all your kindness and friendship. Really gave me so much this past year!

I had a nice weekend. Weather was cold and rainy so I decided to make tortilla soup and baked a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Finishing up some special requests and had fun filling some of my mini glass jars like my real size glass jars in my kitchen. Mine hold my flour and sugar.

I think it is funny how much my miniature world mirrors my real world or how much it is full of how I would like things to be. Thats what its all about to me. Seeing what I can recreate in miniature. So many times I don't know for sure which size I'm seeing life in. Does any one else know what I mean? I'm positive you do. I know there tends to be the never ending debate in the mini world of who made what first.... which most days I find funny. We are all copying something.....Its called "Life". Mini hugs~

So todays project has been muffins. Blueberry, pumpkin spice, chocolate and lemon poppy seed. These are for a special order bakers rack. I still need to make the little papers and then I'm done. Shhhhhh.......I think this one is a Christmas gift. Not much new at my house. Just trying to hold on like so many others. If you walked into my house today you would find a sugar cookie candle burning, music playing and little polymer clay Christmas baked goods happening. I have found myself trying hard to find the mood. This candle smells yummy and makes up for the fact that polymer clay does not.

Thought I would share just some of the sweet creations sitting on my desk this week. Yes I enjoyed having a clean desk for a couple days but back to having minis all over again. I guess thats just how it is going to be. I don't know how to do it any other way. I have alot of mini projects in the works now just to finish them. Do you have that problem too? I'm so happy I finally made some time to clean up my work space. I do not have my own room where I work on minis. I have a small space in my kitchen. It is important I keep my space open or it gets so crazy trying to make ANYTHING! So last night I started cleaning up and just finished it today. Much better I think. Today we had a major weather change. There is a chill in the air and no sun today. Feels like rain. I think it put me in a baking mood. I worked on some little frosted ginger bread men. Should have been working on my mini bakery but felt like doing smaller projects instead. I also managed to get a pork roast in the crock for my family. So todays work is a shabby baking hutch, along with 4 loads of laundry and a pot roast. Still trying to get caught up here in my real world. I think everyone has socks again. I made a little cupcake inspired by the cupcake on Mercedes card and I found some time yesterday to go thru my newest cookbooks. All are new releases and adorable. Yes I'm addicted to cute cookbooks.
